Marvelman, originally known as Miracleman, is a superhero created by Mick Anglo for L. Miller & Son in 1954.
He first appeared in Marvelman #25 (February 3, 1954), a British comic book series that was initially a direct replacement for the Golden Age Captain Marvel comics after Fawcett Comics ceased publication. The character was created due to legal issues preventing publication of Captain Marvel reprints in the UK.
Marvelman was revived in a darker, more deconstructionist form in the 1980s by Alan Moore and later Neil Gaiman, published by Eclipse Comics. This version drastically redefined the character and his world.
The name "Marvelman" itself became a point of contention due to trademark issues with Marvel Comics. This ultimately led to the character being renamed Miracleman.
